A Digital Exhibition - Louis Morel
Louis is an autistic artist who also suffers from sensory processing difficulties and fibromyalgia, a chronic pain condition and is currently house bound. This personal history is central to his artistic identity, as over the years making art has been Louis’s way of coping and finding meaningful ways of interacting with the world. Louis works across a variety of mediums including digital drawing and game design. Louis has been working on sculptural pieces for around a year. He says: "I build a ‘trash skeleton’, using so much stuff, a lot of bubble wrap and a lot of wire. Some of them contain bricks and plastic cans, anything that I can get my hands on, to build a kind of frame. Then on that frame, I wrap tons and tons of Modroc, and then I paint them with acrylic paint. The reason a lot of the sculptures have kind of weird, burned skin, is inspired by how my fibromyalgia feels, because my skin hurts a lot and feels like it’s had boiling water on it. Sculptures are way better for expressing that than drawing, because there’s something a lot more visceral about them." Louis also has a long standing practice of creating graphic drawings digital illustrations on his computer. These are largely figurative and fantasy driven.
