Born a slave, Tom Molineaux fights his way to freedom. In 1810 he travels to London where his flamboyant style wins him huge renown at a time when boxing is becoming an obsession with both the gentry and the wider public.
As his fame grows, Molineaux develops a friendship with legendary journalist Pierce Egan and battles against poverty and prejudice to win the right to face the great English champion Tom Cribb. Huge crowds gather to watch them fight. But will the public allow a black American to defeat one of their own?
Based on an extraordinary true story, Tom Molineaux charts the courage, ambition and despair of one of the first great sporting heroes.
