Part of the WAF Dance Weekender: Riverside Dances at bbodance.

Polish dance is social dancing with singing, teasing, fun and games, and is full of personality. The ethos of Orleta is to present the joy and spontaneity of traditional Polish dance parties on stage.

Polish folklore costumes and traditions are extremely rich and varied. Every town and surrounding countryside in Poland has its unique costumes and traditional dances. In today's show you will see up to five different folklore sets.

Founded in 1973, Orleta is a Polish folk-dance group based in Balham. Orleta consists of a senior representative group and three junior groups. The adult group performs at many festivals and special occasions throughout the UK and abroad. Although it is an amateur group, it always delights and impresses audiences. It rehearses once a week to live accordion accompaniment and occasionally with a live folk band.

The 3 children's groups are aged from 5 to 14. The adult group is aged 15 to over-30. The members are mostly of Polish origin, first, second, third and even fourth generation. Many of the children grow up to join the senior group. Orleta considers itself a close, welcoming and supportive folk family.
