As we leave lockdown and appreciate the pub as a space to gather, Magic Garden is hosting a panel discussion on the role and future of the pub in modern life. What will a future Wandsworth look like?
As new housing developments and chain pubs squeeze out local landlords the spaces where casual community gatherings and cultural events occur are vanishing. Emerging artists look to local pubs to take their first steps.
The local pub in a London where all kinds of venues are rapidly disappearing is one of the last licensed spaces which supports activity other than selling and consuming alcohol. The people who run it are accessible and responsible to the communities they are in, employ local people and in a time of pandemic create a sense of normality that has been sorely missed during lockdown.
What do you think the pub is/should be for? How can we safeguard its future?
Our panel will bring together local venue managers, Wandsworth based artists and council representatives in a collaborative approach to discuss these questions.
Featuring music from Nick the Piano who will tickle the ivories in a traditional pub style and complimentary bar snacks.
